We would like to inform you that the resident, whether an employee or an employer or investor with a valid residence permit, may sponsor his direct family, including a wife, male sons under the age of 18, and unmarried daughters. The employee is required to meet certain conditions, most notably a minimum salary of AED 4000 per month or a salary of AED 3000 and accommodation.
Since March 2019, the profession of an employee is no longer a requirement to bring family members to the UAE, as the UAE government has amended its previous provisions that only allow certain professions to apply for a residence visa for their family members. Now the "occupational requirement" has been replaced by income only so that the foreign worker can bring his family members to the UAE and provide them with a residence visa sponsorship regardless of their profession as long as they maintain the "income criteria" means a minimum salary of AED 4000 per month or a salary of 3000 AED and accommodation.
(For more details see General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs).
Also, if the father resides within the State and meets the conditions of sponsorship of children, the mother is not allowed to sponsor her children. Accordingly, the sponsored are given a residence permit without work and are stamped with an "unauthorized" stamp.
The resident who wants to transfer his or her family sponsorship from a temporary entry visa to a residence visa must change the status within a maximum period of two months after the wife and children enter the UAE.
The resident can provide a residence visa to his wife and children, depending on the length of residence visa he enjoys, and may be for a year or two for employees, depending on their contracts with employers, or for three years for employers and investors.
The “similar duration” requirement excludes children of a male resident who are over 18 years of age who are continuing their education in a higher education institution in the UAE, or the parents of the resident. In both cases, the resident employee or employer can provide a one-year residence permit, renewable, if all other conditions are met.
The documents required to apply for sponsorship of the wife and children:
· Apply for a residency visa either online or through licensed typing offices
· Copy of the passport of the sponsor and the sponsored (wife and children)
· White background photographs of the wife and children
· Original certificate of medical fitness for wife and children after reaching the age of 18
· A copy of the husband's employment contract or the company's contract if he is an employer
· A valid work visa for the sponsor
· Spouse's salary certificate
· Salary certificate from the employer showing the minimum monthly salary required in the Emirate concerned
· Presenting the marriage contract duly legalized
· Notarized lease
· The last bill for water and electricity
