We would like to inform you that according to the data mentioned in your inquiry, the law obligates for domestic workers to take breaks from work during the day, in addition to obtaining a monthly rest period or as stipulated in the employment contract, and obtaining leave after the agreed period in the employment contract, with an emphasis on humane and decent treatment at work that preserves the dignity of the worker. In addition to the domestic worker obtaining a travel ticket to return to his/her country, the recruitment office will bear it within 180 days from the date of the worker’s arrival if it is proven that his/her profession violates the profession specified for him/her in the recruitment license, or that he/she suffers from a mental or contagious disease, or has a disability that does not enable him/her to perform his/her work. The domestic worker may also obtain a return ticket to his/her country, the cost of which will be borne by the employer after the expiry of the contract period, or due to the employer’s breach of the contract.
In case of abuses or violations against workers, including domestic workers, which are included in any country in the world, the worker may resort to legal means and methods with the possibility of reporting the complaint at various authorities, including:
1. The Ministry of Labour.
2. The Royal Omani Police.
3. The Public Prosecution.
4. The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
5. The Omani Human Rights Committee.
Also, any expatriate worker can register his/her report or complaint by attending these authorities directly, or contacting them via hotlines, text messages, WhatsApp, voice mail, e-mail, or through their websites on the Internet.
At the same time, the law obligates the worker not to carry out any individual illegal actions such as leaving work, stopping it, or escaping. In case of any harm caused, the worker may resort to non-Omani manpower recruitment agencies; As these agencies are responsible for settling most disputes related to wages, or the nature of work indicated in the contract during the first six months.
** Therefore, the employer is obliged to pay you a cash allowance for these leaves upon completion of the employment contract.
