Hello, I'm Patience. I have been recently involved in a car accident here in UAE, Al Ain. The SAAED and court's decisions reported clearly that the accident was not my fault. However, since I drove the car without a license, I was arrested, spent a couple of days in Prison and paid a fine for that. Now, my question is this: The two cars involved in the accident were wrecked. The car I was driving was borrowed from a renting company. I'm being asked to pay for the damages plus, paying for the one month the car was held by the police. Since the accident was not caused by me, I'm I responsible for the damage?

I'm not very sure which details are missing, but let me try to detail it. It was on 5th Sept, 2021. I was driving in on the Right lane. Another person came from the middle lane aiming to turn right. Which means, he had to overtake/cross me all the way from middle lane to another road. since the vehicles were to close, the accident happened. Cars crashed. He called the police and admitted that the fault was his. Both cars had damages but because mine was small, it was severely damaged. Because I didn't have a driving license, I was arrested right away. The trial was held and I spent 8 days in prison and I paid AED 3250 fine. The car that I was driving was not mine. It was a rent car from one of car rental companies here in Al Ain. When I got out of prison, the was already held by the police and we couldn't get it before 30 days. The rental company asked me to pay for the 30 day period of custody because the car was not earning, and I paid AED 2000.Later when the car came out, the garage told us that fixing the car would require AED 6250. and the rental company is asking me to pay for this.

The company claims that the car insurance won't pay for the damages because I was driving without a license.

Therefore, I am asking if I am the one who is responsible for repairing the car, even though the accident was not my fault.
