Please kindly be informed that hepatitis is one of the diseases that prevent its patient from traveling to the UAE or getting a work and residence visa for the first time.
This is according to the provisions of Cabinet Resolution No. 7 of 2008 in regards of the medical examination system for expatriates to the country for purposes of work or residence, and its amendments
Article 2:
Expatriates to the UAE for the purpose of residence are subject to the medical examinations stipulated so in this decision, and the conditions of granting residency or renewal are specified to the type of infection and the categories of those who are tested, and among those tests: hepatitis test, so that the necessary tests are conducted to detect the disease for all categories of expats to reside in case residence is given for the first time or in times of renewal. Residence is not granted or renewed for positive cases that are considered unfit. Screening for viral hepatitis: It is limited to newcomers to the country for work for the first time, and in time of residence renewal for the categories of babysitters, domestic servants and those sponsored, nursery and kindergarten supervisors (where they are examined for viral hepatitis B) and barbers, beauty salons and health clubs workers. Where they are examined for viral hepatitis B and C), workers in health facilities (they are examined for viral hepatitis B and C) in accordance with what is specified through a decision issued by the Minister of Health, and of course in coordination with the government health authorities. Tuberculosis examination: It is limited to pulmonary tuberculosis only, and examination is conducted for all new arrivals to the country, and cases that are proven to have old or active pulmonary tuberculosis are considered unhealthy, and residency is not granted. Old or active, the person is considered healthy, provided that it is followed up by the Preventive Medicine Department or another competent government health agency, and the person is given a health fitness certificate for residence in which he / she mentions the phrase SUBJECT TO TREATMENT. An exemption from the conditions of health fitness for old and active tuberculosis for the purpose of obtaining residence for members of the diplomatic and consular corps, with the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs or whoever delegates, it is also considered to be medically fit, relatives of the expatriate and resident, such as the husband and wife, and children who are on the resident’s sponsorship. Those cases are exceptions, a decision issued by the Minister of Health or the competent local governmental health authority, and in all cases the person must be subject to the follow-up of the Preventive Medicine Department, or any other government health authority according to the DOTS program.
