I'm a Canadian citizen, living in the UAE since 2009. I'm married to a UK citizen since 2010. Our marriage took place in a Christian church in the UAE. We have two children - six and four - who were born in the UAE. I was married and divorced prior to 2010 in Canada. I have four children from my previous marriage. Three of the four are out of school and working full-time, and live on their own. The fourth child is in high school and is 16-years-old. I pay $500 child support monthly to my ex-wife in Canada, which should end in the next two years. I have no assets in any country. My current wife has assets in the UK, two properties that i know of. She's also financed a property in Hong Kong for us and her mother, but I believe she switched the property in her brother's name. She finances two cars here in the UAE. We lease a villa, also in my wife's name. My wife has been the sole financial supporter for the entire relationship. For the last ten years, my wife has given me a 15,000 AED allowance on the 28th of every month. She has announced on the 24th of December that she will no longer support me financially. Over the ten years, if my wife has gotten angry or was in a bad mood, she has taken the debit and credit cards from my wallet that she supplied for me. Every day I hide my wallet in case she gets angry or is in a bad mood, so that she doesn't take my only source of money. My wife has extreme mood swings, and I avoid her for the most part unless I know she's in a good or calm mood. She can be in s good mood then instantly and without warning hey angry or yell about trivial things. Yesterday, she got angry at me for offering her parmesan cheese, and when i offered to serve her some rice. After getting angry, she started to call me names and say that I'm a useless person as i fed the coffeemaker at the dinner table.I would like to talk to someone about if there is a divorce to my current marriage, where would be the best jurisdiction, and which jurisdiction would be more likely to handle the divorce.

Please be kindly informed that according to the data contained in us in your inquiry and with reference to the Federal Personal Status Law as it is the law applied with the presence of residency Article 1 of Personal Status Law No. 28 of 2005 states that the provisions of the law apply to citizens of the United Arab Emirates unless it is not for non-Muslims Some of them have provisions specific to their sect and their religion, and its provisions apply to non-citizens unless one of them insists on implementing his law.
This means that the parties concerned may request the application of their own laws in matters of personal status, and therefore divorce is the prerogative of the Church and not the court. The wife can be accompanied by the wife who entered into the marriage contract with an explanation of the reasons for the divorce and the harm that is caused to you for the purpose of ending the marital bond in front of the church Thank you
