A person must pass a theoretical and practical test to pass the driving test in order to be able to apply for a license. A person with a driving license from a foreign legal authority or a military driving license may be exempt from the test.
The test is in Arabic and it is about traffic rules, signs and principles in automotive mechanics. Applicants who are not familiar with the Arabic language can provide the theoretical test orally.

Types of Driving Licenses in Qatar:
 
1. License for one week:

Article 78

The application for a driving license shall be submitted on the form prepared for this purpose and attach the following:

1-  Four new pictures of the student size (4 × 6 cm).

2- Proof of his identity, place of residence, description, nationality, occupation and age.

3- Receipt of payment of the prescribed fee.

4- A declaration that includes his health status as an editor on the prescribed form.

Article 79

The following driving licenses are required to be granted:

1- The condition of age.

2. To pass the driving test conducted by the licensed authority in accordance with the rules and procedures set out in this regulation.
3. 4. Non-Qataris are required to obtain legal residence in the country.

Article 80

Age Requirements:

1. 1. A special driver's license or a motorcycle license shall not be less than 18 years of age.
2. 2. A general driving license is required to be at least 21 years old.
3. A license to drive an industrial, construction or agricultural vehicle must be at least 21 years old.

The age shall be calculated on the basis of the Gregorian calendar and the age shall be proven by birth certificate or official extract thereof. Any official document approved by the legally authorized authority may be accepted in determining the age.

Article 81

Conditions of fitness

Article 91 

After all the procedures have been completed and the conditions stipulated in these Regulations or any other legal organization are granted, the student shall be granted the required license on its own form after verifying that there is no other legal impediment.

Licenses are assigned a serial number for each type.

Article 92

When the licensee is notified of the change of his place of residence or address, this shall be recorded in the files and records of the department concerned with the Traffic Department.
