In case you have got a cheque from his company, this is acceptable, as if the cheque is not paid, you have the right to present the check to the drawee bank to extract a statement that the cheque was not cashed, and you also can report as a criminal report against that person at the police station and your report will be referred to court and accordingly will be penalized with a crime of issuing a cheque without a balance in the account
