Firstly, please note that the employment visa cancellation power lies into the employer's hands since he is the person who has initiated the process of get you engaged and issued your employment visa.
The cancellation had to be submitted to the GDRFA by the employer and the process can be done either online or in their locals
The Ministry of Labour has built up its online site that helps and eases the process of issuing and cancelation of visa.
For your work permit: MOL
For residence permit: Amer - General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs - Dubai
Certain documents shall be submitted after which the cancellation process will be further preceded.
Concerning the other method, it consists to visit any of the typing offices registered by GDRFA and fill the form on your behalf and will be taken towards the cancellation.

If you want to terminate a work contract prior to his full period then your employer is entitled under Law to ask for compensation (as per Article 116 of UAE Labour Law).
You’ll be under obligation to pay 45 days of basic salary as compensation as explained by the article below:
Article (116)
As amended by Federal Law No. (12) of 1986
If the contract has been terminated on part of the employee, for reasons other than those provided for under Article (121) hereof, the employee becomes liable for compensating the employer against losses incurred by him in consequence of contract termination, provided that the amount of compensation, may not exceed half a month's pay for a period of three months or for the remaining period of contract whichever is shorter, unless the terms of the contract provide otherwise.
in case of no resolution, parties can submit their dispute to the Ministry of Labour who may further transfer the case to the court for determination.
That's because
A limited contract can be terminated on the following bases:
- if the term of the contract expires and is not renewed.
- if both, the employer and employee mutually agree to end it.
- if a worker commits any of the violations as mentioned under Article 120 of the Labour Law.
So you have to finish the limited time contract if you don't mutually agree with your employer
