Symptomes and management of kidney stones
Kidney stones are the main cause of colicky flank pain that when they pass in the urter causes the pain with every contraction of the ureter. its mainly formed due to progressive precepitation of crystals in the kidney pelvis and when formed they can pass in the urter if small or stay in the kidney if they are larger than 1 cm. The main hazard of kidney stone is the risk of recurrent infections and obstruction of the urter that can threat the kidney. Its treated by its size that when they are smaller than 1 cm a medical treatment of Tamsulosin /0.4mg once daily till the passage of the stone with urine is indicated. its an alpha blocker medication that help to releive contractions of the ureter and facilitate passage of the stone, its safe to use in diabetics and can cause hypotention so care should be taken when standing not to fall. Diclofenac is an analgesic medication used to releive pain and reduce ureter contractions that should not be used for a long term as it can cause kidney damage on the long term use. Metformin is an oral hypoglycemic agent to reduce blood glucose level that should not be used if you have kidney functions elevated or having lactic acidosis as it cause acidity. You should drink plenty of water to maintain hydration of the kidney and consult a urogolgist regarding the best option of stone removal
