Non union Neck of femur fracture
Neck of femur fracture is one of the commonest fractures that encountered by elderly patients, its a condition of disruption of the normal architicture of the femur bony structure that happen due to direct trauma after fallen down accedents. in some cases the fracture develop a state of malunion in which the bony structures fail to reach the orginal shape that will yeild a deformity and defect in walking abitlity, on the other hand a few cases develop a state of non union when the bony structures failed to show any sign of union after 9 months of fracures for 3 consecutive months, so its associated with tenderness and inability to bear weight in addition to swelling at the hip, but in your case if the surgery was done well at the first time wachful waiting is wise to judge for non- union and a consultation for your treating orthopedic surgeon.
Required tests
after doing a proper clinical exam, cbc should be done to rule out anemia , kidney funtion tests and fasting blood glucose level, Calcium and Vitamin d3 to rule out osteoprosis, A CT SCAN of the hip in addition to bone scan to look for signs of avascular necrosis and osteoprosis. MRI may be requested.
