is it important for the doctor to explain the tests results even if the patient didnt ask for it ?
sure in an typical world thats what should happens in paticular the doctor who ordered the test whether if the test is clinical or radiologica ( CAT SCANS OR MRIs or Ultrasound exam e.t.c ) or laboratory tests such as CBC  or chemistry tests or even pathological tests for biopsies unless the patient requested not to know the results 
what else should the doctor do prior requesting the tests or diagnostic procedures ?
the doctor shoud at firs expalin to the patient about the test and why did he ordered it and what he will look for while interpert the test results and what to expect during the procedure of the test and what are the possible side effects due to the tests 
we will bring on a simple example to make it easier for you to understand how shoud the medical tests be carried on lets say that the doctor wants to order a lumber puncutre sample because of suspected infection ( meningitis ) and here are what should happen by order 

• exam the patient clinically and suspect that the patient has meningitis 
• the doctor should expalin to the patient why he suspected meningitis and what are the other differential diagnosis he suspect and he should explain to the patient the importance of the test 
• the doctor should tel the patient how he can differentiate between the ssupected disease and he should obtain the patient consent for the exams to be carried on 
• the doctor should expalin what he will be looking for in the tests ( in our case any signs of infection such as variation of white blood cells types and the culture of the sample ) 
• expalining what is going to happen during the exam ( in our example the dctor will sterile the lumber area and insert a special needle in between the vertebras to extract the cerebrospinal fluid sample ) 
• the doctor should also explain what is to be expected after the procedure and for our case the headache that might last for days after the puncture or he might feel lightheaded  e.t.c 
• after the results obtained the doctor should explain the results to the patient and what it means 
• the patient has the right to agree or refuse to do the test and also has the right not to listen to the doctors explanations about the tests 
• even if the patient didnt ask about the test the doctor should explain for him unless the patient didnt want to know about it
