I am 8 weeks pregnant. I had IBD(UC). I am under treatment since 2 years. i had no surgery and am better now. I was taking medicine daily ( one capsule )called Mezavant( mesalazin,1200mg) When i know i was pregnant i stopped taking the medicine.I had my blood , urine stool test recently and my CRP was 11.46( which is mild) . I am going to stop the medicine for 1 trimester. Do you think its safe? I am very scared if i take the medicine it will gonna effect my baby. I have read that the medicine cross the placenta. My doctors told me it will not harm the baby . I will be very greatful to get your reply. Thank you so much Regards

Treatment Of Ulcerative colitis during pregncny :
You need to continue the treatment according to your doctor , as discontinuing medical treatment during pregnancy can further harm the fetus by causing a flare-up in the patient . Several studies have reported the use of mesalazin during pregnancy to be generally safe
