Hello Ms. Saeed. Thank you very much. I am a doctor working as consultant in a big hospital in Dubai. I was working 48 hours, except the calls and extra hours. Now they decided to cut down work hours to 24 and cut down my salary by half because of the COVID_19. The contract stated 3 months notice in advance. Can they do that?

The Labor Law permits the reduction of working hours to two hours in Ramadan by a decision of the employer. As for the reduction of working hours in the health sector and exhausting work, it is by decision of the Minister without touching the agreed wage thus, if the employer reduced the basic working hours, his behavior is considered illegal, but if he reduces or cancels the additional working hours, this matter is legal and is not considered a violation

Dear Mr. Samer: Thank you very much for your reply. Actually, they reduced the working hours, mentioned in the contract to half (24 instead of 48), and they reduced the salary by half. They want me to sign a new contract about that , and they are obliging many people to do those changes starting May 1st. As you may know, many places did adjustments at this time of Corona. So my question can they do that within a 1 week notice, and if they cannot, what is the next step for me, because as you know they may put hardship on me. Thanks a lot. Caesar
