Treatment of period disturbance:
It depends on the cause, so treatment may include:
- Just observation as period is irregular in the first years after puberty
- Conservative management by having good nutrition, avoid stress, drink good amount of water daily, doing regular exercise
- Hormonal therapy as contraceptive medications
- Surgery as treatment of cysts, fibroids
And before taking any medication, you have to rule out pregnancy.
Causes of period disturbance:
- Normal disturbance in the first periods
- Pregnancy
- Ovarian cysts
- Uterine fibroids
- Nutritional problems
- Stress
- Hormonal disturbances
Diagnosis of the cause of period disturbance:
You have to visit a gynacologist for clinical examination and investigations as:
- Pregnancy test
- Abdomen and pelvis US
- TSH, Free T4 for thyroid diease
- CBC
- LH, FSH, Prolactin...etc
