I would like to clarify to you that 

Church sponsorship is a type of asylum / refugee with support from Canadian organizations, and it is not required that the asylum applicant to be a Christian, the church does this work for humanitarian agendas only.

It is a pledge in a church in Canada to bring a refugee and take care of his /her affairs during the first year of his / her arrival. For this to be conducted there must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada representing the refugee to apply to the church (sponsorship)

The church sponsor is required to fulfill one of the following conditions:

Must have Canadian citizenship

Be a permanent resident of Canada

The church sponsor is required by one of the two above conditions and his criminal record is clean from any terrorist or criminal activities or not to have any default payments of taxes in Canada.

There is no requirement that there must be a relationship between the sponsor church and the applicant.

The sponsor must deposit an amount in the church account to be responsible of the refugee for one year.

The Church shall pay monthly payments of this amount to the refugee upon arrival to Canada for one year, in order to make sure that the applicant does not apply for refugee assistance in Canada within this period.

After the end of the year, it is assumed that the refugee has applied for a job and has a source of income. If the refugee does not get a job after this year, he/she can apply for financial support from the Canad.

Note that the refugee who benefits from this program must be outside his/her homeland at the time of submitting the application for asylum / regugee.

Noting that, priority is given to those who have received the certificate of protection from the United Nations (ie, the protection document).

One of the advantages of this program is that its acceptance odds are very high, unlike other immigration programs and it is rejected only for security reasons, such as if the criminal record of the refugee is not clean.

Keep in mind that the money deposited from the sponsor vary according to the number of family members and the province itself (note that the province of Alberta does not require depositing in cash at the bank). These amounts range between the following:

One person: 9000 to 10000 $

Two persons: $ 15,500 to $ 18,500

Three persons: 17,700 to 23,000 $

Four persons: 20000 to 26000 $

Be noted, the church refugee program is not accepted by any church, as it requires that the church to be licensed of doing so.
