What is the treatment of increasing the thickness of the endometrium?
Treatment of endometrial thickness depends on the age at which it occurs, and how severe the symptoms are. If this occurs at a younger age and the woman is still of childbearing age, most of the time it is treated with drugs that balance hormones and treat the cause.
If a woman is approaching menopause or if she is in menopause, hormone replacement therapy consisting of progesterone may be helpful.
However, long-term treatment may be contraindicated because it may increase the risk of breast cancer and heart disease. This aspect of treatment should be discussed with your doctor during hormone replacement therapy. When conventional therapy is not satisfactory, the other option is hysterectomy -uterine removal -.
Sometimes, high endometrial thickness may lead to uterine cancer, if a woman does not prefer to undergo a hysterectomy, it is always recommended to regularly follow up with her doctor.
What causes endometrial thickening?
Increased endometrial thickness is also called endometrial hyperplasia. Since endometrial hyperplasia is linked to hormones, the condition is more common during menopause. Estrogen is required to increase the endometrium and progesterone supports it.
When there is excessive estrogen secretion with an insufficient level of progesterone, there is excessive growth in the endometrial cells leading to abnormal endometrial thickening
The thickening of the continuous process is due to excess estrogen secretion. Most often it occurs in a woman who is going through menopause. It also occurs when you take estrogen medication, without adequate balance with progesterone pills. Other factors responsible for the development of thick endometriosis include obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, and diabetes
Symptoms and severity of thick endometriosis:
A common symptom of endometrial thickening is severe bleeding during menstruation. Menstrual bleeding may last for several days.
Pain in the pelvis and abdomen may be associated with thickening of the endometrium.
The thickness of the endometrium itself is not cancerous, but the risk of developing precancerous cells is high. For this reason, women with abnormal endometrial thickness need treatment and monitoring, especially in premenopause and menopause. Thickening of the endometrium can be diagnosed with the help of ultrasound and evaluation of symptoms. Once diagnosed, a gynecologist may perform a biopsy of the endometrium. The biopsy material will be sent to the laboratory and examined
