We would like to inform you that if you wish to file a divorce lawsuit, you shall go to the consulate only to certify the documents required by the court. The divorce proceedings shall be registered by one of the spouses at the Family Guidance Department of the applicant for divorce in the emirate where you reside. And then the Guidance Department make a secret communication with the other party to determine the hearing of the spouses and try to reform between them, with letting them understand that they have the right to hire a lawyer for both spouses at this stage, as this stage is mandatory since the divorce may not be referred to the court directly before the Family Guidance Department opinion of divorce is given.  If the Family Guidance Department does not arrive at an amicable solution or if the divorce is not reached by agreement, in this case the case file is referred to the family court for the completion of the divorce proceedings after the Family Guidance Department allows them to go to the court by a decision taken before it and the papers required to be included in the application for divorce proceedings are:

Marriage contract

Passport to prove the identity

Valid residence (this document is not always requested)

A birth certificate for children (if any)
