We would like to inform that to obtain a license to drill a well, you must apply to the competent department in Abu Dhabi to obtain a license to drill the well with the documents that will be requested by the municipality and the Secretary General of the Environment Agency will form a committee to study the applications for the issuance of a license to drill water wells and decide on them in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 6 of 2006, which reads as follows:

Article 3

The Competent Department shall coordinate with the local and federal authorities to perform the following tasks:

1. Identify and classify water basins in the Emirate.

2. Determine the areas where groundwater extraction is permitted, as well as the adjacent prohibited areas.

3. Setting environmental and engineering standards and requirements necessary to protect and regulate the exploitation of groundwater resources in the Emirate, and to identify ways of using them and rationalizing their consumption.

4. Granting licenses for drilling wells, increasing their capacity and maintenance, or changing the purposes of their use.

5. Granting licenses to companies and institutions operating in the Emirate in the field of drilling wells.

6. Conducting geo-hydrological studies showing the movement of groundwater, determining the depth of the aquifer and the area of influence and sources of nutrition, and identifying the biological status of the aquifers.

7. Determine the number of wells from which groundwater is allowed to be extracted in the same geographical area, as well as the depths, dimensions and distances between them.

8. Determine the quantities of groundwater that can be extracted from a single well based on the water balance in the site and the concentration of dissolved chemical elements and purposes of use
