Red, white lesion extending from the upper first premolar to retromolar area. Mid palate also involved.GROSS:The specimen is received in a single formalin container, properly labeled with the patient's name, site of biopsy and type of procedure. The specimen consist of multiple pieces of tissue, whitish-grey in color and approximately 15 x 15 x 10 mms in dimensions. The tissue pieces are hemisected before being submitted for processing in a single block.HISTOLOGY:Sections show a soft tissue specimen consisting of dysplastic oral epithelium in association with fibrous connective tissue and a malignant neoplasm showing epithelial differentiation. The neoplastic cells invade the underlying connective tissue as nests and cords. The neoplastic cells exhibit increased nuclear/cytoplasmic ratios, prominent nucleoli, frequent mitosis and terminal keratinization.
