We would like to inform you that Foreigners wishing to work in Japan need to obtain a work visa from the Japanese Embassy or Consulate outside Japan to enter Japan in the case of residence permits to work if foreign nationals residing in Japan for work or long-term residence on a re-entry permit or a special re-entry permit from the Ministry of Justice (Regional Immigration Office) before they leave Japan, they can enter Japan again without a visa as long as their stay is valid in Japan and there are many types of residence permits, each of which allows the holder to work in the professional area specified in the residence card.

If you change your job during your stay in Japan to a different occupational field you will need to change your residence status and you will need to inform the Immigration Office and foreign residents of Japan may not engage in certain unauthorized activities under their residency status, and may additionally not change their activities in Japan without a valid authorization, or intend to conduct their business or engage in an activity that would result in remuneration.

If a foreign resident wishes to engage in an unauthorized activity under his / her residence status, he / she must apply for a change of residence status and obtain permission from the Minister of Justice to do so.

If a foreign resident intends to maintain his or her current residence status but wants to initiate an unauthorized income-generating activity under his / her residence status, he / she must obtain a permit to engage in such unauthorized activity in accordance with the established procedures and if the foreign resident intends to remain in Japan after his stay, he must apply for an extension of his stay
