 First: Working Hours in UAE Labor Law

 according to the Labor Law, working hours are 8 hours per dya, or 48 hours per week. The working hours may be increased to nine hours a day in the business, hotel, cafeteria, guard.
Second: Regarding the employer's retention of passport in the UAE law

 The UAE Ministry of the Interior has issued a decree confirming that the passport is a personal document that the owner must keep and show it to the official government authorities upon request. No party may hold the passport except by judicial order and in accordance with the law. The detention of the passport is punishable by a fine of up to 20 The employee can file a complaint against the employer at the local labor office and even file a complaint with the police.

As the article 85 stipulates the below:

that according to the Federal Labor Law stipulates that the maximum normal working hours for adult workers shall be 8 hours per day or forty-eight hours per week. The working hours may be increased to nine hours a day in the business, hotel, cafeteria, guard and other occupations which may be added by a decision of the Minister of Labor.

 The daily working hours may be reduced for exhausting or harmful to health occupations by a decision of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs. The normal working hours shall be reduced by two hours during the month of Ramadan
