Treatment of cough:

It depends on the cause, so treatment may include:

• Conservative management by drinking good amount of fluid, rest
• Antihistamine as cetrizine 10 mg once daily before sleep to treat allergy and sore throat
• Antibiotic to treat bacterial infection as augmentin 500 mg three times daily.

Causes of cough:

It may be due to:

• Allergy which associated with dyspnea, wheezing
• Viral infection with associated with dyspnea, low grade fever
• Bacterial infection which associated with high grade fever, sputum, dyspnea

Diagnosis of the cause of cough:

It depends on the clinical examination of a pulmonolgist and investigations as:

• CBC
• Chest x-ray

Till the right diagnosis you can use cetrizine 10 mg once daily before sleep.
