We would like to inform you that according to the UAE Labor Law, public sector work hours will range from 9am to 2pm, according to the Federal Human Resources Authority. Therefore, all working hours are five hours per day. Consequently, all private sector establishments are obliged to reduce their daily working hours during the holy month of Ramadan to 6 hours instead of 8 hours per day, 36 hours instead of 48 hours per week, as is the case for other months of the year. The labor law allows businesses, hotels, cafeterias and guardians to increase daily working hours to 9 hours. Also, the private sector establishments are free to organize the working hours of their employees during the month of Ramadan in a manner commensurate with the operation of their work and in accordance with the law. He stressed the need for the worker to get the allowance for additional work in the event that he did work for more than 6 hours a day and no more than 2 additional hours per day. According to the Labor Code, if the working conditions necessitate that the worker be employed more than the normal working hours, the period of the increase shall be regarded as an additional period for which the worker shall be paid an equal wage equal to the normal working hours plus an increase of not less than 25% of that wage. The reduction in working hours in Ramadan includes all categories of employment in the sector regardless of their religion as one of the acquired rights guaranteed by law the private sector workers.
