Treatment of dry cough:

• depends on the cause
• someimes it is relted to a simple viral infection and it doesn't need a treatment except warm fluids and antitussives like the one you are using is enough
• avoiding intense execises and cold air
• if there is a history of asthma or allergic respiratory response before, then you should consult a pulmonologist who may prescribe for you a bronchodilator
• if you have a history of of hypertension and you are using a drug fom (ACE inhibitors) family then this drug maybe the cause of your dry cough and you may need to change the treatment
• if you felt general tiredness with weight loss recently you may also cosider to consult a pulmonologist to assess your case precisely

Diagnosis of dry cough:

• clinical history and physical examination
• pulmonary function test
• chest X-ray
• complete blood count
• high resolution computed tomography if needed

Causes of dry cough:

• usually happens with viral respiratory infection
• can be due to an allergic reaction of bronchoalveolar system like in asthma
• can be a side effect of certain drugs like antihypertensive drugs (ACEi)
• can be due to pathological causes in lung parenchyma like in fibrosis and certain tumors thus usually asssociated with general tiredness and weight loss over weeks or monthes
