Treatmrnt of Braxton Hicks contraction:

• change position
• relaxation and try to breath deeply
• take a warm bath
• drinking fluids can help
• if the contractions increased in intensity and a gush of water comes out then you must contact your obstetrician

Diagnosis of Braxton Hicks contractions:

• clinical history and examination
• no signs of cervical dilatation
• the contractions decrease with time and they come and disappear spontaneusly in unexpected way
• do a an abdominal ultrasound

Causes of Braxton Hicks contractions:

• they happen normally before the actual labor
• most commonly they appear in the third trimester
• hyperactive fetus
• after touching or shaking the mother's belly
• after sex during pregnancy
• can be due to loss of body fluid or dehydration
• they can be a sign for begining of labor if the contractions started to increase in intensity
