Sometimes referred to as scar tissue, is a hard, stacked scar that suddenly rises above the rest of the skin. Usually the top is smooth and pink or purple. Solids are formed irregularly and tend to expand gradually. Unlike scars, the blocks do not go down with time.
Changes in cellular signals that control proliferation and inflammation may be associated with the process of scar formation, but these changes have not been adequately described to explain this defect in wound healing.
