- antifungal cream ointment miconazole (Lotrimin) , for 5-10 days
- tablet fluconazole (Diflucan) 150 mg , 1 capsule evrey week for 3 weeks
- or suppository. butoconazole (Gynazole) evrey 12h for 3 days
How do you prevent vaginal yeast infections?
- Eat a well-balanced diet.
- Eat yogurt or take supplements with lactobacillus.
- Wear natural fibers such as cotton, linen, or silk.
- Wash underwear in hot water.
- Replace feminine products frequently.
- Avoid wearing tight pants, pantyhose, tights, or leggings
- Avoid using feminine deodorant or scented tampons or pads
- Avoid sitting around in wet clothing, especially bathing suits
- Avoid sitting in hot tubs or taking frequent hot tub baths
Several factors can cause a yeast infection, including:
- antibiotics (they lower the amount of Lactobacillus, or good bacteria, in the vagina)
- pregnancy
- uncontrolled diabetes
- weak immune system
- poor eating habits, including a lot of sugary foods
- hormonal imbalance near your menstrual cycle
- stress
- lack of sleep
Vaginal yeast infections have a common set of symptoms, such as:
- vaginal discharge
- vaginal itching
- swelling around the vagina
- burning during urination or sex
- pain during sex
- soreness
- redness
- rash
