Is PET scan safe?

PET scan allows your doctor to check for diseases in your body. it uses a special dye that has radioactive tracers. These are injected into a vein in your arm. Then by use of technological advances the view appear and show if there is a disease or not.
There are no known long-term adverse effects from such low-dose exposure. Some potential side effects that might occur include: Bleeding, soreness or swelling may develop at injection site.
Usually, doctor request to do PET scan to diagnose the cause for mass. PET and PET-CT scans are highly accurate at determining whether a mass is cancerous and may even eliminate the need for surgical biopsy especially for lung cancer.
