What is treatment of acne?
The treatment regimen your doctor recommends depends on your age, the type and severity of your acne, and what you are willing to commit to.
- Topical medications
1. Retinoids and retinoid-like drugs, include tretinoin,adapalene.
2. Antibiotics, include clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide.
3. Salicylic acid and azelaic acid.
4. Dapsone.
- Oral medications
1. Antibiotics. For moderate to severe acne, include tetracycline or a macrolide.
2. Combined oral contraceptives.
3. Anti-androgen agents, like spironolactone.
4. Isotretinoin.
- Therapies
1. Lasers and photodynamic therapy.
2. Chemical peel.
3. Extraction of whiteheads and blackheads.
4. Steroid injection.
