Treatment
Treatment includes the use of antifungals, including  Miconazole cream three times a day for a week. In some cases, an oral antifungal treatment can be used, such as Fluconazole 100mg oral dose. If itching is present, the doctor may prescribe an antihistamine such as loratadine 10 mg once a day, in addition to the possibility of using betamethasone ointment three times a day to relieve itching. We also recommend ensuring the cleanliness of the vagina and genital area, in addition to wearing loose, cotton underwear. It is recommended to keep the area dry and avoid scratching it because this increases irritation.
Diagnostic tests:
Fungal vaginal infections are diagnosed by knowing your medical history by the doctor, which is considered sufficient for diagnosis, as fungal infections cause the appearance of white vaginal secretions with a foul odor and itching. Symptoms are mostly relied upon for diagnosis, but a urine analysis can be done to rule out the presence of infections that may be associated with vaginal infections, in addition to the possibility of taking a sample from the vagina and examining it in a laboratory.
Symptoms of fungal vaginal infections:
White vaginal discharge like cottage cheese
Itching in the vagina
Unpleasant vaginal odor
Redness of the genital area
Advice:
Follow the previous instructions and consult a gynecologist if there is no improvement.
