Brucella disease (Malta fever) is a disease caused by a type of bacteria called Brucella that infects animals with miscarriage and humans with fever. It is known in the world by names according to the infected organism. In humans, it is called brucellosis, brucellosis, or Mediterranean fever. In cattle, it is called infectious abortion, and in sheep, it is called epididymitis and orchitis. .

The incubation period for the disease from the occurrence of infection until the appearance of symptoms ranges from 3 weeks and may extend to several months in some sick cases, and when the disease appears for the first time in a herd of cows, some pregnant females miscarry between the fifth and eighth months of pregnancy during the last trimester of pregnancy.
In addition, the symptoms of this disease include neinclude neonatal death during the first few days after birth, placental retention and mastitis, in addition to chronic uterine inflammation.
When a miscarriage occurs, it is followed by discharge from the uterus that lasts for more than two weeks and shows reproductive disorders that lead to temporary or permanent infertility.

Ways to prevent the disease:
Follow all health conditions in terms of sterilization and cleanliness inside the animal barns.
The positive test animals are immediately removed from the herd and slaughtered, while the negative test animals are retested after one month, and when two consecutive negative results are obtained, the animal is considered uninfected, and it is also recommended to retest every three months and then every six months.
- It is not allowed to introduce new pregnant animals to the farm unless they are detained for 3 weeks after birth and then examined with a tasalin test, as negative animals from the test are considered free of the disease.
- New non-pregnant animals are not allowed to be introduced to the farm until they are isolated and examined twice with a tasalin test, one month apart, before being introduced into the herd, and an animal that gives a negative result for two times is considered infected with the disease.
- Isolate aborted animals immediately from the rest of the herd and subject them to laboratory testing until it is confirmed that they are free of the disease, in addition to burning and damaging all aborted fetuses.
- Vaccinate healthy livestock to avoid infection.
