We would like to inform you that it is possible to obtain Venezuelan citizenship through birth or jus sanguinis if the person fulfills the following conditions:
A child born in Venezuela, regardless of the nationality or status of the parents.
A child born outside Venezuela to parents who are Venezuelan by birth.
A child born outside Venezuela to a Venezuelan father or mother, who is Venezuelan by birth, provided that the child lives in Venezuela or declares his or her intention to acquire Venezuelan citizenship in any of the Venezuelan diplomatic missions.
The child is born outside Venezuela to a naturalized Venezuelan father or mother, provided that the child lives in Venezuela before reaching the age of 18 and declares his or her intention to acquire Venezuelan citizenship at the Ministry of the Interior and Justice or in any Venezuelan year of registration.
Note: Venezuela grants automatic citizenship to those born on its lands and territories if the parents are foreigners.
Obtaining Venezuelan citizenship through naturalization
Naturalization takes place through the acquisition of nationality by an individual with the approval of the granting authority after fulfilling the legal conditions, namely:
Applicants must be legal residents of Venezuela, must have passed a citizenship test and fulfill continuous residence requirements before submitting an application for naturalization to the Venezuelan government:
Any person who has lived legally in Venezuela for 10 consecutive years.
Citizens born in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Latin American or Caribbean countries who have legally lived in Venezuela for 5 continuous years.
Minor children born abroad whose parent(s) obtained Venezuelan citizenship by naturalization and have lived legally in Venezuela for 5 continuous years. Nationality must be approved by the minor before the age of 21.
