Foreigners can apply for permanent residence in the UK after 5 years of legal residence in the UK In some cases the waiting time is less than five years and you can apply for British citizenship after 5 years of residency (In some cases less than five years) after your permanent 12-month stay in the UK.
You can apply for British citizenship by naturalization after 5 years of residence, or after 3 years of residence if you are married to a citizen of the United Kingdom or in a civil partnership with it that needs to meet the following British citizenship requirements:
- Adequate knowledge of English
- Pass a life test in the UK
- Do not have a serious criminal record
- You haven't spent more than 450 days outside the UK in the past five years (270 days in the last 3 years if your partner is a British citizen)
- Don't spent more than 90 days last year outside the UK
- Acquired permanent residence in the UK 12 months ago
