My friend works in Dubai in customer service. She was spoken to very harshly by a customer on the phone. No profanity, but very nasty like "you don't care" type comments shouted at her. She was upset but the customer called back few minutes later to say sorry very nicely. My friend told her it was OK and she understood it was due to covid worries etc. However the call was recorded for quality and training purposes and now that HR have heard the call they say she must report the customer for slander. My friend does not want to do this but the company say they will do it anyway. My friend feels this is awful for the customer who has big worries and apologized straight away. Our question is this - can the company charge the customer with slander even if my friend does not want to get involved? Thank you
