What is hair transplant?
Hair transplant is a procedure in which a dermatologist transfers hair to a bald area of the head. he usually transfers hair from the back or side of the head to the front or top of the head. Hair transplants usually occur in the medical office under the influence of local anesthesia.
There are two types of implant procedures: naughty grafts and small grafts. Short grafts contain 4 to 10 follicles per implant. Minor grafts contain one or two hairs per implant, depending on the amount of coverage required.
Hair transplantation can improve your appearance and confidence. Good candidates for hair transplantation include:
Men suffering from male baldness
Women with thin hair
Anyone who has lost some hair from burns or scalp injuries
Hair replacement is not a good option for:
Women with a widespread pattern of hair loss throughout the scalp
People who do not have enough "donor" hair sites to remove hair for transplantation
People who have keloid scars (thick or fibrous scars) after an injury or surgery
People who lose hair due to medications such as chemotherapy
What happens during hair transplant?
After thoroughly cleaning your scalp, the surgeon will use a small needle to numb an area of your head with local anesthesia. After that, they will use a scalpel to remove a circular part of your scalp covered hair. Then they sew the closed scalp.
The surgeon will separate the removed portion of the scalp into small sections with a magnifying glass and a sharp surgical knife. When implanted, these parts will help achieve natural hair growth.
The surgeon will make small holes with a blade or needle in the area of your scalp receiving hair transplant. They will gently put the hair in these holes. During a single treatment session, the surgeon may transplant hundreds or even thousands of hair.
After steralization, gauze or dressings cover your scalp for a few days. A hair transplant session may take four hours or more.
Your stitches will be removed 10 days after surgery. You may need up to three or four sessions to get the full head for the hair you want. Sessions occur after several months to allow each transplant to complete recovery.
What happens after hair transplant?
Your scalp may be sore and you may need to take medications after hair transplant surgery, such as:
Pain medicine
Antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection
Anti-inflammatory medications to maintain swelling
What are the complications associated with hair transplantation?
Hair transplant side effects are usually minor and obvious within a few weeks. It may include:
bleeding
infection
Scalp swelling
Bruises around the eyes
Dandruff forming on areas of the scalp where hair has been removed or transplanted
Numbness or decreased sensation in the treated areas of the scalp
Inflammation or infection of hair follicles (folliculitis)
Sudden but usually temporary loss of transplanted hair (called shock loss)
Abnormal tufts of hair
